My time as a Homeless Outreach Specialist
8 years as a Homeless Outreach Specialist has given me unique experience and insight with the system of homelessness plaguing out country. This post is the highlight my time working at Goddard Riverside Community Center.
New York Daily News
The NY Daily News wrote an article about homelessness in our city, specifically Code Blue. Code Blue a code we use when temperatures in the city drop to 32 degrees and below. At those temperatures frostbite, hypothermia and other negative health conditions attributed to the cold start to really take effect. During a Code Blue the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) mandates that all organizations go on high alert in regards to the homeless population. I had the pleasure of being the team that the press crew rode with that day to document and follow an average day of a homeless outreach specialist. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s HOME-STAT program
When Bill de Blasio was mayor, he wanted to tackle homelessness as part of his campaign. He started the HOME-STAT program to try and achieve that goal. Working for an organization contracted by the city, I of course was a part of that program and the video the mayor’s office released advertising the creation of the HOME-STAT program included photos of me and my partner Joshua.
NYC’s Subway Safety Plan
During Covid, a rise in attacks of the New York City subways prompted Mayor Adams to launch his Subway Safety Plan which included photos of me. For the full plan you can visit: https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/home/downloads/pdf/press-releases/2022/the-subway-safety-plan.pdf
